My nephew has lissencephaly and is almost 10 months old. I was wondering if any parents had any suggestions for Christmas and birthday gifts for him? He will be almost one at Christmas time. I was wondering if there were any hints, suggestions, or things that your children enjoy. Many thanks. Rosalind

Hello Rosalind, My daughter Maria Victoria loved her mobil that had colorful animals and beads that would roll along the wires as it twirled. It also played classical music. When Maria would be held in the TV room she would stare at the ceiling fans twirling. At Chritmas I wrapped a reaf with colored/blinking lights, special just for her. Her coordinator recommended any safe toy that stimulates the senses including touch. strings of paper like a pompom, strings of beads, etc. Of course adult supervision is required. Hope this helps. If you are still looking for gift ideas, then i hope the following helps. The Baby Einstein company make a great range of books, videos, cds, and now toys. My daughter really responded to her first video from their range, BABY BACH, when she got it for her first birthday. It is simple images on screen, but set to the classical music. 2 years on and she still loves to watch it. It is really relaxing for parents too !

With regards to sensory equipment.. After taking our baby to a sensory room at our local child development unit we have tried to recreate as much of the experience at home as possible. We have used black out blinds, rope lights, hanging fairy lights, mood lights that change colour, a tall tubular light bubbler (his favourite), disco ball, and a strange 'electric lightning ball' (from Maplin electrical store). Ikea do good lights and ebay is great for getting hold of bizzare stuff (the fish light bubbler was an ebay purchase). Hope this helps somebody.
