Hi all,
I have a 8 yr old nephew with severe Lissencephaly and want to buy him a toy that will help him with his recognition and hand-eye co-ordination. I am worried about him sitting watching TV too much and want something he can interact with, ideally something that will sit on his lap or on a table in front of him.
Currently the only things he gets real enjoyment out of is watching TV or DVDS on his portable player, and I wondered if there was something I could buy which might have an interactive/learning element for him.
I've thought about something with a touch screen (i.e. an ipad with specialised software on) but these are obviously rather expensive so if there are any alternatives people know of I would be really grateful.
thanks
Peter

Hey there, Sorry you didn't get an answer sooner. Maybe these suggestions might help with the future for you. There are SO many things you can consider. If he has a tray....a zhu zhu or nano or hex bug to run around on the tray is always appreciated. Any keyboard type thing that play music etc is good, in particular we have an ILC drumpad that our daughter uses without the sticks - this particular one does not need much pressure to trigger a response....but is instant satisfaction when they get their hand to move on the/ or to the relevant pads...this has been a favourite for along time now. The music toys are also quite age relevant.
I have to say that we use our ipad so much for so many different things and can strap it to the tray for hours of use on different applications....it is the BEST thing ever. She does not need to move her hand on it very much to get a response on some of the applications. But like you say it is expensive but maybe something to look to an organisation for funding for....or get a lot of family members to chip in for.....a lot of people are like you - want to buy something - not sure what! (and don't want to see it wasted).
We have been doing some really simple things with some pretty stones on her tray....these are very well recieved and pushed around the tray and touched etc...good to use wet or slightly warmed or cooled for different feels...good to put into little purses or bags to open later to see what is inside etc etc
Hope I have given you some ideas.
Kindest regards Sharon
